MEDIA

TikTokers have completely taken over mainstream media. It's interesting to consider that these social stars are actually ‘elected’ by the public in a sense, whereas the traditional trajectory of fame stems from an executive casting someone in a film or head of a record label signing an artist and then selling them to the world. Right now, it seems like everyone is ending up at the same place. TikTok stars like Noah Beck are on the cover of Vogue or GQ and are getting just as many mentions and headlines in the press, walking red carpets, and receiving invitations to the Met Gala. To put it in perspective, Kim Kardashian wasn’t invited to the Met Gala until she attended as Kanye West’s plus one in 2013 (at least 6 years into her fame, 8 seasons into ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ with a plethora of spin-offs, cameos in hit network shows like ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ ‘90210’, ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ 'The Apprentice,’ a collection of magazine covers, big budget endorsement deals, fragrance and lip gloss releases, a New York Time’s Best Selling Autobiography, and the list goes on...) while someone like Addison Rae (1 year into her fame) was personally invited to the coveted Met Gala. That just speaks to the power of TikTok. The content in this section covers how TikTok has dominated the mass media.
